About Skyhook Crane

The short answer

Skyhook Crane is a licensed and insured crane service based in Surprise, Arizona, launched by Don on September 11, 2023. We lift rooftop HVAC units, spas, trusses, solar panels, sheds and heavy items across the Phoenix metro with small-business values and a big-business approach. Don runs the crane himself and works side by side with his son Bryce, a professional crane operator Don trained.

Our story

Skyhook Crane launched on September 11, 2023, in Surprise, Arizona. Don started the company with a simple idea: give Valley contractors and homeowners a crane service that competes with the bigger crane firms on the work while keeping the personal attention of a small business.

That idea is still the way we run. Small-business values with a big-business approach. When you call, you talk to Don. When the truck shows up, it’s Don, and on many days his son Bryce too, ready to work.

Meet Don and Bryce

Skyhook Crane is a father-and-son operation. Don operates the crane, and on many days his son Bryce is right there with him. Bryce is with Don almost every day and does about 95% of the operating when he’s on the job, and he is a professional at the controls: smooth, careful and precise, whether he’s setting a rooftop package unit on a tile roof in Surprise or swinging a spa over a block wall.

Bryce learned from the best. Don is his dad, and Don taught Bryce everything he knows about the crane.

When Bryce is at the controls, Don works the job: talking with your crew, keeping an eye on the rigging and the landing zone, and handling the scheduling. He’s also a crane operator with heart. Don has been known to climb up on the roof to help line up a package unit, and to lend a hand in the attic when he sees an HVAC crew struggling.

What we lift

Rooftop air conditioning and heating units are the heart of the business. We set and remove rooftop equipment for lots and lots of HVAC companies around the Valley, including package units, condensers, heat pumps, evaporative coolers and curbs.

We also lift:

We lift it all. If it can't go through the door, over the roof it goes.

Our equipment

You will know our truck when you see it: a white Ford work truck lettered SkyHook Crane Services with a red telescopic boom crane mounted on the back. A truck-mounted crane sets up quickly in a driveway, street or parking lot, which suits residential and light commercial work across the Valley.

Every lift is different. Call with the weight of the item, how far it needs to go and where the truck can park, and Don will confirm the lift.

Licensed, insured and connected

Skyhook Crane is licensed and insured. We take the safety side of crane work seriously, from checking for power lines to agreeing on signals before every pick. Total trust between the cab and the rigger on the ground makes the impossible look easy.

We also have trusted relationships with other crane companies. When a lift is beyond what our truck can handle, we can help point you in the right direction instead of leaving you to start from scratch.

Where we work

We are based in Surprise in the West Valley and work all over the Phoenix metro, including Peoria, Glendale, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler, and out to Wittmann and Wickenburg.
