One city, very different job sites
Peoria covers about 179 square miles and reaches from the older streets of Old Town near Grand Avenue up into the mountain foothills around Lake Pleasant, with a slice of the city in Yavapai County. A lift near the P83 district along 83rd Avenue looks nothing like a lift in a hillside neighborhood in Vistancia off Loop 303.
Timing matters too. The Peoria Sports Complex near the P83 district is the spring training home of the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners, and game days bring extra traffic to that part of town. If your job is nearby in February or March, we will plan the drive around it.
We plan each Peoria job around where it is. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 to schedule, and include the address so Don can look at the site before confirming.
Commercial flat roofs along the 101 and Grand Avenue
Peoria's commercial corridors are full of strip centers, offices and light industrial buildings with flat roofs and rooftop package units. For HVAC contractors, that is bread-and-butter crane work:
- Removing and setting rooftop package units and heat pumps
- Lifting curbs, adapters and equipment rails onto the roof
- Staging ductwork and materials ahead of a changeout
Commercial lifts often come down to access and timing. Tell us where the truck can park, whether there is a parking lot or a drive aisle behind the building, and what traffic or customer activity needs to be worked around. Your crew rigs and guides; we run the boom and set the unit in one shot. More details on our HVAC crane lifts page.
HOA neighborhoods: units, spas and solar
Most of Peoria's homes are in HOA subdivisions with block walls and walled backyards. That is where homeowners and residential contractors call us most.
For HVAC crews
Residential change-outs here usually mean lifting a condenser or heat pump over the house or a wall to a pad in back, or setting a package unit on the roof. Many homes have concrete tile roofs, so tell us the roof type and where the unit is going.
For homeowners
We lift spas and hot tubs, prebuilt sheds and heavy outdoor items over the house when there is no way through the gate. If it can't go through the door, over the roof it goes.
For solar installers
We can stage solar panels and racking on the roof so the crew is not hand-carrying them up ladders.
Check with your HOA before lift day about work trucks and equipment. Some cities require a right-of-way or street-use permit to set up in the street, so check with the City of Peoria if the truck will need to sit in the roadway.
North Peoria and the foothills
North Peoria climbs into the foothills, with peaks such as West Wing Mountain and Sunrise Mountain, desert washes, and Lake Pleasant at the top of the city. Newer communities like Vistancia sit off Loop 303 near the Happy Valley Road exit. Lifts up here have a few extra wrinkles:
- Slopes. Hillside lots and sloped driveways change where the truck can safely set up. Tell us if the site is not level.
- Distance. The far north end of the city is a longer drive, so plan with a little more notice.
- Custom homes. Bigger homes and larger lots can mean a longer reach from the street to the backyard.
Every lift is different. Call with the weight of the item, how far it needs to go and where the truck can park, and Don will confirm the lift. If a job needs more crane than ours, we have trusted relationships with other crane companies.
Safety we plan for
Before any Peoria lift, we look at what is overhead. OSHA requires crane equipment, load lines and loads to stay at least 20 feet from power lines up to 350 kV unless specific procedures are used (29 CFR 1926.1408). On commercial jobs, we also plan around parked cars, foot traffic and deliveries, and keep the lift zone clear while the load is moving.
Skyhook Crane is licensed and insured and run by Don and his son Bryce out of nearby Surprise. HVAC contractors working Peoria regularly can read our notes for HVAC contractors, then call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361.
Crane lifts we do in Peoria
Frequently asked questions
Do you lift rooftop units on commercial buildings in Peoria?
Yes. Rooftop package units and heat pumps on flat commercial roofs are a big part of our work for HVAC contractors. Tell us where the truck can park, the unit weights and anything to work around, like customer parking or deliveries. Don will confirm the lift and the setup before the job is scheduled.
Can you do crane lifts in north Peoria near Vistancia and Lake Pleasant?
Yes, we work across Peoria, including the northern communities. Hillside lots and sloped driveways can change where the truck sets up, so send photos and let us know if the site is not level. The far north end is a longer drive from Surprise, so a little extra notice helps with scheduling.
Can you put solar panels on a Peoria roof for my installer?
Yes. We can lift solar panels and racking to the roof so the installation crew does not have to carry them up ladders. Your installer handles placement and mounting. Have the installer or homeowner call with the panel count, the roof type and where the truck can park, and Don will confirm the lift.
