Crane service questions

Answers to common questions about booking a crane lift with Skyhook Crane, from rooftop HVAC change-outs to spas, sheds and heavy items over the house. Still have a question? Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 to schedule or talk through your lift.

What does Skyhook Crane lift?

Our main focus is rooftop HVAC: package units, condensers, heat pumps, evaporative coolers, curbs and old-unit removal. We also lift spas and hot tubs, trusses, solar panels, well equipment, storage sheds, roofing and building materials, and heavy items like generators, safes and machinery. We lift it all, after Don confirms the lift.

How do I schedule a crane lift?

Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 to schedule. Give us the job address, what is being lifted, its weight, how far it needs to go and where the truck can park. Don will confirm the lift and set a day and start time with you. You can also email skyhookcranedon@gmail.com.

What is the most important information for a crane lift?

The weight of the item, how far it has to go from where the truck parks and where the truck can set up. A crane's lifting ability changes with how far the boom reaches, so all three matter together. Photos of the item, the landing spot and the street help Don confirm the lift.

How much can your crane lift?

Every lift is different, because what a crane can handle depends on the weight and how far the load has to travel from the truck. Instead of quoting one number, we confirm each job. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 with the weight, the distance and where the truck can park, and Don will confirm the lift.

What kind of crane do you use?

We run a truck-mounted telescopic boom crane with a red boom on a white Ford work truck lettered SkyHook Crane Services. A truck-mounted crane can set up in a driveway, street or parking lot, which suits rooftop HVAC work, backyard lifts and many job sites across the Valley.

What happens if my lift is too big for your truck?

We will tell you. We have trusted relationships with other crane companies, so if a lift is beyond what our truck can handle, we can help point you in the right direction. We would rather be upfront than promise a lift we cannot safely do.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Skyhook Crane is licensed and insured. If a general contractor, building manager or HOA needs paperwork before the lift, mention it when you call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 so it can be sorted out well ahead of lift day.

What areas do you serve?

We are based in Surprise and work all over the Phoenix metro Valley, including Peoria, Glendale, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler, and out to Wittmann and Wickenburg. We also travel to northern Arizona when needed. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 to confirm your location.

Do you work with HVAC contractors?

Yes, a lot. Lots and lots of HVAC companies around the Valley book us for change-out day. We agree on a start time with your crew, lift the old unit down and set the new unit on the curb in the same visit, and coordinate signals with your rigger on the roof.

How close can a crane work to power lines?

OSHA's crane rules for construction set a minimum clearance of 20 feet for power lines up to 350 kV and 50 feet for lines over 350 kV, unless the utility de-energizes and grounds the line or other specific procedures are followed. Tell us about every line near the truck, the load path and the landing spot.

Do I need a permit for the crane to set up in the street?

It depends on your city. Some cities require a right-of-way or street-use permit to set up equipment in the street, so check with your city before lift day. If you live in an HOA community, check their rules about work trucks, street parking and work hours too.

What if there is a septic tank or pool equipment near where the truck parks?

Tell us before lift day. Crane outriggers need ground that is firm, drained and level enough to support the truck, and OSHA expects the party in control of the site to point out hazards under the setup area such as tanks, voids and utilities. Don can plan the setup around them.

Do you lift in windy weather?

Only when it is safe. The operator watches the wind throughout the job and will hold or reschedule a lift if gusts make the load hard to control. Large flat items like AC units, spas, sheds, trusses and solar panels are the most affected, and summer monsoon storms often build in the afternoon.

What should I do on lift day as a homeowner?

Clear cars from the truck spot and furniture from the landing area, keep kids and pets inside and stay out of the swing area and away from the load. Let neighbors know if their cars or driveways may be affected. The operator and the person guiding the load will handle the rest.

Do you list business hours?

We do not publish set hours. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 to schedule, and Don will work out a day and start time that fits your job. For contractors, we coordinate the crane arrival with when your crew expects to be ready.

Got something that needs lifting?

Call or text with what you’re lifting, about how much it weighs, and how far it needs to go from where the truck can park. He’ll confirm the lift and get you on the schedule.
