One city, three very different setups
Scottsdale runs about 31 miles from south to north, and a lift near the Salt River looks nothing like one in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains. We think about it in three rough zones.
South Scottsdale and Old Town
Older neighborhoods and commercial buildings, many with flat roofs and tight parking lots. Old Town is the city's busy downtown, so timing and truck placement matter.
Central Scottsdale and the Shea Corridor
Planned communities like McCormick Ranch and Gainey Ranch, with HOAs, lakes, golf courses and well-kept streets. Expect HOA rules about work vehicles.
North Scottsdale
Larger desert lots, DC Ranch, the Troon North area and homes near the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. More slope, longer drives and natural desert close to the house. The preserve alone covers roughly 30,500 acres of the McDowell Mountains and surrounding desert, so some homes back onto open desert with no rear access. In that case, the lift usually goes over the house from the front.
HVAC contractors: commercial and residential
Scottsdale's commercial strips, offices and resort-area buildings keep a lot of rooftop equipment running. We set package units, condensers and curbs, and lower old units so your crew can finish the change-out in one visit. Have the old unit disconnected and the curb or adapter ready, and tell us where the truck can park without blocking business entrances. More on our HVAC crane lifts and for HVAC contractors pages.
Homeowner lifts in Scottsdale
- Spas and swim spas set over the house onto patios and pool decks. See spa and hot tub lifts.
- Solar panels staged on the roof for installers.
- Trusses and materials for remodels, casitas and additions. See truss lifts.
- Heavy items like outdoor kitchens, sculptures and safes.
HOAs, gates and street setups
Much of central and north Scottsdale is governed by HOAs, some with gated entries. Check whether your association wants notice for contractor vehicles or equipment going in the backyard, and arrange gate access ahead of time.
If the truck has to set up in a public street, some cities require a right-of-way or street-use permit; check with the City of Scottsdale before lift day. In Old Town and near busy commercial areas, an early start can make parking and traffic simpler.
Watch for overhead lines too, especially behind older south Scottsdale homes. Federal crane rules require extra precautions when any part of the crane or load could get within 20 feet of a line up to 350 kV, and we plan every pick around that.
Schedule your Scottsdale lift
From Surprise we usually take Loop 101 across the north Valley. Every lift is different. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 with the weight of the item, how far it needs to go and where the truck can park, and he'll confirm the lift. Skyhook Crane is licensed and insured, and for lifts that need a bigger crane, we have trusted relationships with other crane companies.

Frequently asked questions
Do you do crane lifts in north Scottsdale?
Yes. North Scottsdale is part of our regular service area, including areas near DC Ranch, Troon North and the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Lots there are often larger with slopes and long driveways, so photos of the drive and the setup spot help. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 and Don will confirm the lift.
Can you set rooftop units on a building in Old Town Scottsdale?
Often, yes. The key questions are the unit weight, how far the roof curb is from where the truck can park, and whether a street or lot needs to be partly blocked. Busy areas may need a permit or an early start. Send the unit specs and photos, and Don will confirm the setup.
My Scottsdale HOA is strict. What should I ask them?
Ask whether they require notice for a contractor vehicle, any approval for a new spa or structure, permitted work times, and gate access for the truck. Some associations also want the vehicle's insurance information. Skyhook Crane is licensed and insured, and we can share what your HOA needs to know.
