Call first: Prescott is a trip for us
Our home base is Surprise in the West Valley, and Prescott is roughly 95 miles away by road. We do go up when it makes sense, but it isn't an everyday run. Before anything else, call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 to confirm availability and travel for your date.
The more we know up front, the better: the item, its weight, how far it travels from the truck, where the truck can park and photos of the site. With those, Don can tell you whether the lift fits our truck and whether the trip works. If it doesn't, we have trusted relationships with other crane companies and may be able to point you somewhere closer.
Mountain town, different conditions
Prescott is the Yavapai County seat and sits at about 5,400 feet, with landmarks like Thumb Butte and the granite outcrops of the Granite Dells, around Watson and Willow Lakes, just north of downtown. That elevation changes the job compared with the Valley:
- Freezes and snow. Freezing nights typically run from late October into May, and the city averages around 10 inches of snow a season. Snow usually melts fast, but icy mornings and frozen ground affect when and where we can set up.
- Monsoon. From mid-June to mid-September, storms can bring wind, hail and heavy rain. Wind stops lifts.
- Hills and rock. Many lots are sloped or rocky, and the truck needs firm, level ground.
Older streets around downtown
Downtown Prescott, with Courthouse Plaza and Whiskey Row on Montezuma Street, has historic buildings and older neighborhoods with narrow streets, mature trees and overhead lines. Those setups need a close look. If the truck needs to set up in the street, check with the City of Prescott about permits before lift day. Photos of the street, the overhead lines and the path to the landing spot help Don plan the setup before he commits to the drive.
What's worth the drive
HVAC contractors are our main customers, and in Prescott that includes heating as much as cooling: heat pumps, package units and condensers on roofs and pads. See HVAC crane lifts. Homeowners call about spa lifts (a hot tub on a cold night up here is popular for a reason), trusses for additions and garages, and heavy items that can't go through a door.
Bundling makes the trip easier. If a contractor has several change-outs in the Prescott area, scheduling them together is worth mentioning when you call.
How we get there
From Surprise, we head up through Wickenburg on US 60 and US 93, then State Route 89, or take I-17 to State Route 69. Weather on either route can change the plan, and we'll keep you posted. Skyhook Crane is licensed and insured.

Frequently asked questions
Do you really travel to Prescott for crane lifts?
Yes, when needed. Prescott is about 95 miles from our Surprise base, so we don't go up every day. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 to confirm availability and travel before you plan around a date. Sending the item weight, distance and photos up front helps Don give you a clear answer quickly.
Will snow or cold weather cancel a Prescott lift?
It might. Prescott averages around 10 inches of snow a season and has freezing nights from fall into spring. Snow usually melts quickly, but ice, frozen or muddy ground and wind can all make a lift unsafe. We watch the forecast and will reschedule rather than set up in bad conditions.
Can you set a spa on a sloped Prescott lot?
Often, yes, if the truck can find firm, level ground on the street or driveway and the spa's weight and distance to the pad work for our truck. Rocky, sloped lots are common in the area. Send the spa model and photos from the setup spot toward the pad, and Don will confirm.
