An active-adult community with its own rules
Sun Lakes is an unincorporated community in Maricopa County, about two and a half miles east of I-10, bordered by Chandler to the north and east. It's an active-adult community made up of five country club areas: Sun Lakes 1, Palo Verde, Cottonwood, Oakwood and IronWood. Most residents are 65 or older. Robson Resort Communities traces its roots here to 1972, when the first Sun Lakes lots were sold.
Oakwood and IronWood are gated, Cottonwood and Palo Verde have both gated and non-gated sections, and association rules apply throughout. That's the first thing we plan around, before we ever talk about the lift itself.
Before the truck arrives: gates and approvals
A smooth Sun Lakes lift usually starts with a few calls by the resident or contractor:
- Gate access. If your neighborhood is gated, arrange entry for a work truck on the day of the lift.
- HOA notice. Ask whether the association wants notice for contractor vehicles.
- Approvals. A new spa, solar array or structure may need architectural approval.
- Neighbors. A quick heads-up helps if the truck will sit in front of their home for a while.
We'll give you the truck details your association asks for. Skyhook Crane is licensed and insured.
HVAC change-outs for Sun Lakes contractors
With thousands of homes and clubhouse facilities, Sun Lakes keeps HVAC contractors busy. We set rooftop package units, heat pumps and condensers, and lower the old units in the same visit, so your crew isn't carrying equipment through a resident's home or across a finished yard. Read more on our HVAC crane lifts page and our page for HVAC contractors.
For residents: spas and heavy items
A spa on the back patio is a popular addition, and a crane is often the simplest way to get it there when walls or landscaping block the side yard. See spa and hot tub lifts. We also lift heavy items such as safes, furniture pieces and equipment that won't go through a door, and stage solar panels for installers.
Homes on golf course lots sometimes have more room in back, but course rules may limit access from the fairway side. We set up from the street or driveway and keep the work zone clear of walkers, carts and neighbors while the load is in the air.
Plan your Sun Lakes lift
From Surprise we take Loop 303 or Loop 101 to I-10, head southeast and come in on Riggs Road. Every lift is different. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 with the weight of the item, how far it needs to go and where the truck can park, and he'll confirm the lift. Residents and family members helping out are welcome to call; we'll explain what to measure and what to expect.

Frequently asked questions
How do you get into a gated Sun Lakes neighborhood?
The resident or contractor arranges it ahead of time with the community's gate or association. Give them the date and tell them a crane truck from Skyhook Crane is coming. If they need the vehicle description or insurance information, we'll provide it. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 and we'll help coordinate.
Do I need HOA approval for a spa in Sun Lakes?
Possibly. Each Sun Lakes country club area has its own association and rules, and a new spa, structure or solar array may need approval. Check with your association before scheduling the lift. Once you have the go-ahead, send us the spa model, the pad location and photos, and Don will confirm.
Can a family member set up the lift for me?
Of course. Plenty of lifts are arranged by an adult child, a neighbor or the installer. Whoever calls, we need the same information: the item and its approximate weight, how far it travels from the truck, where the truck can park, and any gate access details. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361.
