Yes, we come out to Carefree
Carefree is a small town in northeastern Maricopa County, about 8.8 square miles, bordered by Cave Creek and Scottsdale. It was conceived in the 1950s by K.T. Palmer and Tom Darlington as a planned community and incorporated in 1984. Today it's a quiet residential town set into the desert, with Black Mountain rising above town and the big sundial at Sundial Circle as its best-known landmark.
We're based in Surprise and reach Carefree by way of I-17 and Carefree Highway (SR 74), which runs along the town's southern border.
Custom homesites change the plan
Many Carefree homes are custom builds on desert lots rather than rows of the same floor plan, so setups vary from one property to the next. Long, curving driveways, natural desert left close to the house, and homes stepped into sloped ground are all things we plan around.
A truck-mounted crane needs a firm, level place to set up. On a custom lot, the best spot may be the motor court, a turnout on the drive or the street. Tell us what's available and send photos, and Don will work out whether the reach and angle make sense. If a lift isn't a fit for our truck, we'll say so and, when it helps, point you toward one of the other crane companies we trust.
Lifts that fit Carefree homes
Rooftop and ground HVAC equipment
Many desert homes put mechanical equipment on the roof or tuck it behind walls. HVAC contractors call us to set new units and lower old ones in one visit. Start with our HVAC crane lifts page.
Spas and hot tubs
Patios and pool decks behind the house are often only reachable over the roof. See spa and hot tub lifts.
Solar panels
We stage panel pallets on the roof for installers. See solar panel lifts.
Heavy and awkward items
Sculptures, stone pieces, safes and equipment that can't be carried in. See heavy item lifts.
A little more weather than the Valley floor
Carefree sits around 2,400 feet, and because it's closer to Arizona's central mountains it gets noticeably more rain than Phoenix. That matters for lift day: soft ground after a storm, wind ahead of a monsoon cell, or wet desert soil on a dirt turnout can all mean waiting. We won't lift in conditions that aren't safe, and we'll call you if the weather changes the plan.
Book a Carefree lift
Every lift is different. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 with the weight of the item, how far it needs to go and where the truck can park, and he'll confirm the lift. If your property is in an HOA or a gated area, check their rules on contractor vehicles before the day. Skyhook Crane is licensed and insured.

Frequently asked questions
Do you travel to Carefree for crane lifts?
Yes. Carefree is about 45 miles from our Surprise base, and we reach it by way of I-17 and Carefree Highway. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 with the address, the item and its approximate weight, and photos of where the truck could park. Don will confirm the lift and set a time that works.
My Carefree home has a long, winding driveway. Can the truck get in?
Possibly. We look at width, turns, grade, overhead branches and whether the surface is firm enough for a work truck. Sometimes the truck sets up at the street or a wide spot on the drive instead. Send photos or a short video of the drive and the landing area, and Don will tell you what will work.
Can you lift a spa onto a patio on the back side of a Carefree home?
Often, yes. Over the roof is the usual route when walls, slopes or desert landscaping block a ground path. The spa's weight and the distance from the truck to the patio decide the lift. Have the pad ready, clear the landing area and send the spa model, and Don will confirm before you schedule.
