HVAC lifts on Glendale's commercial roofs
Glendale has a lot of commercial roof space: strip centers along the main avenues, offices, restaurants and light industrial buildings. Much of it is flat roof with rooftop package units, and that is the core of what we do for HVAC contractors.
- Old package units and heat pumps lifted off and set on a trailer
- New units, curbs and adapters set where your crew needs them
- Equipment and materials staged on the roof ahead of the changeout
On a commercial lift, the questions are usually about access: where the truck can set up, whether there is a rear lot or alley, and how to work around customers and deliveries. Send us a site photo and the unit weights, and Don will confirm the lift. Your crew rigs and guides, and we set the unit in one shot. See HVAC crane lifts and our page for HVAC contractors.
Older central Glendale vs. newer neighborhoods
Glendale's original 1895 townsite sat between Lamar Road, 55th Avenue, Myrtle Avenue and 59th Avenue, and the older neighborhoods around downtown and along Grand Avenue reflect that age. North and west, the city grew into larger planned areas like Arrowhead Ranch, around Arrowhead Towne Center.
Older areas
Expect alleys, mature trees, overhead power and service lines, and some flat or low-slope roofs. OSHA requires crane equipment and loads to stay at least 20 feet from lines up to 350 kV unless specific procedures are used (29 CFR 1926.1408), so lines often decide where the truck sets up.
Newer areas
Expect HOA rules, block walls, tile roofs and walled backyards. Check with your HOA before lift day, and remember that some cities require a right-of-way or street-use permit to set up in the street. Check with the City of Glendale if the truck will need to sit in the roadway.
Homeowner lifts across Glendale
Glendale homeowners call us when something is too big or heavy to carry through the house or gate:
- Spas and hot tubs going in or coming out
- Prebuilt storage sheds lifted over a wall into the backyard
- Heavy items like safes, stone, planters and equipment
If it can't go through the door, over the roof it goes. Every lift is different, though. Call with the weight of the item, how far it needs to go and where the truck can park, and Don will confirm the lift. If a job is beyond our truck, we have trusted relationships with other crane companies.
Planning around game days and events
Glendale is home to State Farm Stadium (Arizona Cardinals), Desert Diamond Arena and the Westgate Entertainment District, and Camelback Ranch hosts spring training for the Dodgers and White Sox. Big events bring heavy traffic around Loop 101 and the stadium area.
If your job is near Westgate or the stadiums, let us know early so we can schedule the lift around event days. A clear drive in means the truck arrives when your crew is ready, not stuck in traffic.
The same goes for commercial lifts in busy shopping areas. A weekday morning, before parking lots fill, is often the easiest window to keep a lift zone clear and the job moving.
How to get on the schedule
Skyhook Crane is licensed and insured, run by Don and his son Bryce out of Surprise, and we work across Glendale and the rest of the Phoenix metro. The fastest way to a yes or no is a text with the right details:
- Address and whether it is a home or a commercial building
- What is being lifted, with the weight or the make and model
- Where it is going: roof, backyard pad, or down to a trailer
- Photos of the front of the building, the roof, the landing spot and anything overhead
- Where the truck can park: driveway, street, parking lot or alley
For commercial jobs, also mention any tenant or customer schedule we need to work around, such as a restaurant that opens for lunch or a lot that fills up early. That lets us pick a time when the lift zone can be kept clear.

Crane lifts we do in Glendale
Frequently asked questions
Can you lift HVAC units onto commercial buildings in Glendale?
Yes. Setting and removing rooftop package units and heat pumps on commercial flat roofs is a core part of our work for HVAC contractors. Share the unit weights, the address and where the truck can set up, including any rear lot or alley access, and Don will confirm the lift before scheduling.
Is a crane lift harder in older parts of Glendale?
It can take more planning. Older neighborhoods near downtown often have alleys, mature trees and overhead power lines, and OSHA requires cranes to keep at least 20 feet from lines up to 350 kV unless specific procedures are used. Photos of the street and roof help Don choose a safe setup spot.
Will a Cardinals game or event affect my lift near Westgate?
It might, so tell us early. Events at State Farm Stadium and Desert Diamond Arena bring heavy traffic around the Westgate area and Loop 101. We can schedule around big event days so the truck arrives on time and your crew is not waiting. Call 602-615-0712 or text 623-258-8361 to plan the date.
